Kyoko: No Germaine! You are! You are refusing this! All of it! And why? Why would you? Countless nights I’ve spent awake watching that blue screen’s endless flow of words, of intelligence… I’m telling you… this is him, this is who he really is. Why won’t you even read it? Why do you deny his existence!
Germaine: No Kyoko-chan, you are the one who’s in denial.
Kyoko: You’re absurd. He left behind all of this, all of this for you. I’m telling you… he wanted to be found. He wanted you to find him. To collect his life’s work, it was his dream to see them published one day. You, of all people, should know that.
Germaine: I have known him all his life. I know what’s best and I’m telling you, just let it go. Please don’t waste my time, I’m leaving.
(Germaine stands up steadily, slightly nods and proceeds to walk out the café. Kyoko gets up hastily and gives chase. She grabs her by the arm and turns her around violently. Kyoko is close to tears.)
Kyoko: Even if everybody refuses to believe me, you, have to believe me. You have to believe in him.
(… a slight pause.)
Germaine: You wait, right up to his death, to glorify him, I ask why… Why didn’t you do so sooner? Why didn’t all of us? Therefore, this is the end. We should be ashamed of ourselves.
(Kyoko loosens her grip as Germaine proceeds to walk out the door. Kyoko is dumbfounded, while Germaine walks out, crosses the road and waits by the bus stop.)
